Celebrate National Herbalist Day with a Free Foraging eBook: Modern Wildcrafting šæ
Posted on April 17 | By Jessica, Certified Prairie Herbalist
Happy National Herbalist Day! Today, April 17, we celebrate the wisdom and dedication of herbalists around the world. According to Google AI,
"This day is a time to recognize and appreciate the work of herbalists, who use plant-based remedies for healing and wellness. It's also a time to learn about different herbal traditions and the importance of plant-based medicine."
As a certified prairie herbalist, I couldn't agree more. Nature provides incredible plant allies right in our own backyards ā and learning from them is both empowering and healing.
Why Wild Plants Matter
Here on the prairies in Central Alberta, Iāve dedicated myself to studying and using native wild plants in everyday life. These plants have deep traditional roots and practical modern uses. Some of my favorites that I personally harvest and use at home include:
-
Balsam poplar buds
-
Usnea lichen
-
Spruce tips
-
Wild roses & rose hips
-
Nettle
-
Juniper berries
-
Dandelion root
-
Bearberry leaf
-
Goldenrod
And the list goes on. Ā Every season brings new lessons and opportunities to reconnect with nature's wisdom. I know that I will be forever curious and always learning.Ā
